This Weekend’s Weightlifting Shambles

Posted in General Colin McNulty Stuff, Olympic Weightlifting at 6:16 am by Colin McNulty

It’s hard to start this post… without resorting to impolite expletives! This weekend’s weightlifting competition went about as wrong as it could have done, short of bombing (failing to get any lifts).

I could wax lyrical about my failures, but can’t quite face it to be honest. It was a shambles that’s soonest forgotten. The short version is, I got only 2 of my 6 lifts: 70kg Snatch and 95kg Clean & Jerk, for a 165 total. A mile away from the 182 total I was hoping for. Here’s the high def video, in all its embarrassing glory:

Any plans for 2010 yet? Do you plan to keep on the Hungarian routine, or try something else? btw Happy New Year!

Hi Geoff, I’m just working on a 2010 new year’s resolution post. First order of the day will be to get back in shame after a December of giving it all up. :-S

Hello Colin, thought I’d check up on your progress. Had a look at the video and the only thing to say is “dickie in the hole!”. Paul was struggling a bit with the same thing last year so we had a couple of long jump-snatch (full squat) competitions with an empty bar as warm up on snatch days. It seemed to help and was good fun.

Hi Giles. You’re going to have to explain that better, what’s “dickie in the hole”? And what’s a jump-snatch?
