{"id":1225,"date":"2010-05-19T20:31:39","date_gmt":"2010-05-19T19:31:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.colinmcnulty.com\/blog\/?p=1225"},"modified":"2010-05-19T20:21:55","modified_gmt":"2010-05-19T19:21:55","slug":"sausage-not-steak-increases-heart-disease-risk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.colinmcnulty.com\/blog\/2010\/05\/19\/sausage-not-steak-increases-heart-disease-risk\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Sausage not steak&#8217; increases heart disease risk"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I was very interested to see this article on the BBC website this week on a study from <strong>Harvard University<\/strong>: <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/1\/hi\/health\/8688104.stm\">&#8216;Sausage not steak&#8217; increases heart disease risk<\/a> of particular interest was this key quote:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;the lifestyle factors associated with eating unprocessed meats and processed meats were similar, but only processed meats were linked to higher risk.&#8221; <\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>That&#8217;s a really telling conclusion.  Personally I think it&#8217;s a load of old nonsense that eating red meat is linked to health issues, the reason being, several studies I&#8217;ve seen lump processed meats with red meats, when assessing risk factors.
