{"id":52,"date":"2007-06-04T20:24:22","date_gmt":"2007-06-04T20:24:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.colinmcnulty.com\/blog\/2007\/06\/04\/crossfit-athletic-skills-standard-level-2-coming-along-nicely\/"},"modified":"2007-06-04T20:24:22","modified_gmt":"2007-06-04T20:24:22","slug":"crossfit-athletic-skills-standard-level-2-coming-along-nicely","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.colinmcnulty.com\/blog\/2007\/06\/04\/crossfit-athletic-skills-standard-level-2-coming-along-nicely\/","title":{"rendered":"Crossfit Athletic Skills Standard &#8211; Level 2 coming along nicely"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I posted last week about achieving <a href=\"http:\/\/www.colinmcnulty.com\/blog\/2007\/05\/30\/im-a-well-rounded-beginner\/\">level 1 of the Crossfit Athletic Skills standards<\/a> and have now started on the Level 2 tests.<\/p>\n<p>I already ticked off 4 by checking my Personal Best sheet, namely:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1 x bodyweight squat<\/li>\n<li>1 1\/2 x bodyweight dead lift<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 x bodyweight military press<\/li>\n<li>500m row in 1:45 (I got it wrong, my PB is 1:43.9)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>On Friday last week I achieved 2 more easy ones:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>18 inch vertical jump<\/li>\n<li>1 minute handstand hold<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And today, I got 3 more:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>400m run in 1:34 mins &#8211; I managed 1:18 which is actually 1 second under the level 3 time!<\/li>\n<li>30 press ups &#8211; make sure chest touches the ground.<\/li>\n<li>30 v-ups &#8211; This was a lot harder than it looked, and I think they were scrappy at best, considering I can&#8217;t even touch my toes normally.  After 20 I was groaning, and after 25 I was nearly in tears!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I should say, to do a v-up you do this:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Lie on your back completely flat with your arms out straight above your head.<\/li>\n<li>Keep your legs straight and together, so you are completely straight on the ground.<\/li>\n<li>Raise your body and legs up off the ground at the same time, so that only your bum is touching the ground (hence the V in the name).<\/li>\n<li>Touch your hands to your feet, or your shins if flexibility limits (as it does me!).<\/li>\n<li>Unraval back to the ground and repeat.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.coopersguns.com\/videos\/exercise-encyclopedia\/abdominals\/v-up\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">See here for a video of a v-up<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Next on the list to attempt (when the days Crossfit exercises permit) are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>100 free squats<\/li>\n<li>15 hanging knees to elbows<\/li>\n<li>20 pull ups (I&#8217;ve got a niggle in my shoulder at the moment so might have to delay this one).<\/li>\n<li> 30 second L-Sit<\/li>\n<li>2000m row in 7:30<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 x bodyweight power snatch<\/li>\n<li> 3\/4 x bodyweight power clean<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I posted last week about achieving level 1 of the Crossfit Athletic Skills standards and have now started on the Level 2 tests.
